Warzone on Console — The Settings That Actually Make a Difference
Forget copying a pro's 200-line settings list. These are the handful of options on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S that really change how Warzone plays, and how to tune them for you.
Search for "best Warzone settings" and you'll find giant lists of every toggle in the menu, copied from a streamer whose setup, screen and playstyle look nothing like yours. Most of those settings barely matter. A handful matter a lot.
This guide focuses on that handful, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Names and exact menus shift a little between Call of Duty seasons, but the ideas stay the same.
Start outside the game: 120Hz
Before touching Warzone's menus, check your console and TV.
- On PS5, enable 120Hz output in the system's screen and video settings, and turn on the console's performance preference so games favour frame rate.
- On Xbox Series X|S, set a 120Hz refresh rate in the TV and display options.
- On your TV, enable game mode and use an HDMI port that supports 120Hz.
If your display supports it, a high refresh rate is the biggest upgrade you can make. Motion is clearer, input feels more responsive and tracking targets gets easier. If your TV is limited to 60Hz, skip this step and focus on everything below.
Field of view: see more, but not too much
The Field of View (FOV) slider controls how much of the world fits on screen. A higher FOV shows more around you, so you spot more threats, but it makes distant enemies smaller.
A sensible starting point on a TV is somewhere around 100–110. Sit close to a big screen? You can go higher. Play at a distance on a smaller TV? Stay toward the lower end so targets don't shrink too much.
Also look for ADS Field of View. Setting it to Affected keeps aiming down sights consistent with your chosen FOV, which most players find feels more natural.
Turn off motion blur
Motion blur looks cinematic and makes it harder to see. Turn off World Motion Blur and Weapon Motion Blur. It's one of the few settings almost everyone agrees on.
While you're there, lower or disable first-person camera movement effects if the menu offers them. Less shake means a steadier view.
Controller settings that matter
Aim assist type
Call of Duty offers several aim assist types, each with a different feel. Default is a fine baseline. Precision and Focusing variations change how strongly the slowdown applies near targets. Try each in a private match against bots and pick the one that feels most predictable to you.
Deadzones
Deadzone settings decide how far you push a stick before the game responds. Lower deadzones feel more responsive. If your controller has any stick drift, a deadzone that's too low will make your view creep on its own. The right value is the lowest number that doesn't cause drift.
Response curve
Dynamic is a popular choice because it gives fine control for small adjustments and still lets you turn quickly. If tracking moving targets feels jumpy, try the Standard or Linear curves and compare.
Sensitivity
There's no magic number. A good method:
- Start at a medium sensitivity.
- Raise it until you can turn 180 degrees comfortably in a moment.
- Lower it slightly if you overshoot small adjustments.
Then stop changing it. Consistency beats chasing the perfect value every week.
Audio: hear them before they see you
Warzone is a game of information, and sound is the cheapest information you'll get.
- Use headphones. Even a basic wired pair plugged into the controller beats TV speakers for footsteps.
- Try the headphone-focused audio mixes and pick the one where footsteps stand out most clearly to you.
- Lower the music and cinematic sounds so they don't mask important effects.
Quality-of-life toggles
A few smaller options make life easier:
- Auto sprint reduces the strain of clicking the stick constantly. Combine it with omnimovement-friendly bindings for smoother movement.
- Button layouts such as Tactical or Bumper Jumper move jump or crouch so you never take your thumb off the right stick. They feel strange for a day, then natural.
- Customise your HUD and minimap so what matters is visible and the clutter is gone.
